contents Perceptions and Needs: The Full Time Undergraduate Commuter Student at the University of San Francisco. Counelis, James Steve Dolan, Frances Anne Ancillary School Services College Students Commuting Students Higher Education Questionnaires Research Projects Student College Relationship Student Needs A three-part questionnaire was designed to assess the needs of the commuter student at the University of San Francisco. The questionnaire, mailed to 250 commuter students, investigated the university student services; desired services, facilities, and activities; and the reason for living off-campus. Results of the survey indicated: (1) Full-time commuter students utilized the bookstore, library, Bursar's Office, University Registrar, and food facilities. (2) The International House, Educational Services Center for Minority Students, the Ombudsman, intramurals, health ministry, and counseling center appeared to be low in usage because of their specialization. (3) Commuter students indicated need for a university bus, student/faculty coffee hours, intramurals, movies, lounge areas, and facilities that would enable them to stay occasionally on campus in the residence overnight. (4) Privacy and lower off-campus living costs appear to reflect the current college trend for students to move off-campus, rather than an indication of an undersirable residence hall system. (MJM)
