The first speaker, Allen Hershfield, introduced the topic with emphasis on the importance and critical need for measurements of library effectiveness. The next speaker, Ernest DeProspo, was concerned with methodological problems and the relation between measurements and effectiveness. Robert Taylor was concerned with the possibility of measuring library effectiveness, particularly as it applies to the library user. Richard Dougherty closed the symposium with a focus on the human side of library effectiveness and on library personnel. (WH)
