In this first volume of a four-volume report, the first year's activities of NASIC are reviewed. The work, which was directed toward implementing computerized search capabilities in university libraries, developed through an experimental service operation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) library the knowledge and experience to: (1) assist other libraries in this implementation process, (2) develop programs of training for library staff members, (3) direct activities for user education and service promotion, and (4) recommend procedures for effective service provision.
