  • A Survey of the Business Community for the Business and Technology Division Columbus Public Library. Stafford, Robert M. Scoles, Clyde S. Business Community Surveys Industry Information Needs Library Surveys Public Libraries Questionnaires Tables (Data) Use Studies In the interest of providing accountable and responsive service, the Columbus Public Library undertook a survey of business community use of the library's Business and Technology Division. The survey was directed at manufacturing, service, professional, trade, and retail firms in the central Ohio area. A one-page questionnaire was devised to elicit information on the respondent's firm, sources of information, and opinions about the public library. The Chamber of Commerce membership directory formed the mailing list. The results of the survey suggested that two kinds of efforts were necessary to improve the services of the Business and Technology Division. The first was improved publicity, since only a small percentage of the respondents indicated an awareness of familiarity with the public services to business. The second was better services and facilities within the business library itself, in response to the expressed needs and opinions of the respondents. Survey results are presented in narrative and tabular form. (Author/SL)
