Data Processing Design Requirements Fines (Penalties) Job Simplification Library Automation Library Circulation Library Facilities Organizational Change Public Libraries Space Utilization Specifications Task Analysis an analyst from the staff of the City Manager of Glendale, California, conducted a work simplification study for the central library to adjust public service operations in the library's new quarters. This report presents the study's recommendations concerning the book circulation process. Following an outline of the organization and functions of the circulation department, recommendations are made for the rearrangement of the circulation desk, film log reassignment, larger print in the visible file, reserve flagging and searching, elimination of the second overdue notice, changes from daily to weekly overdue dates, and the elimination of overdue fines. Appendixes present details on three alternative card transaction systems and circulation department process description and work flow. (SL)
