Hu, Teh-Wei And Others Bookmobiles Cost Effectiveness Costs Delivery Systems Libraries Library Extension Library Services Library Surveys Public Libraries Use Studies The application of cost-benefit analysis to two library delivery systems--bookmobiles and books-by-mail (BBM)--is described. The study surveyed 36 bookmobiles and the mail order delivery (MOD) of books in Pennsylvania. The analyses are intended to provide decision-makers with guidance in determining (1) the kinds of information which must be collected in order to evaluate bookmobile and BBM services, (2) the mix of bookmobile and BBM services that will best meet the public's demands, (3) the comparative costs of providing bookmobile and BBM services, and (4) the major segments of the public that bookmobiles and BBM currently serve. Cost and user data for each program are provided, as are comparisons of the benefits resulting from each. Appendixes include examples of the questionnaires used in the study. (Author/DGC) |
