Audiodisc Recordings Audiotape Recordings Audiovisual Aids Bibliographies Cataloging College Libraries Films Filmstrips Guidelines Higher Education Instructional Materials Library Material Selection Library Standards Library Technical Processes Maps Media Selection Nonprint Media Photographs Slides To aid academic librarians in the judicious selection, care and use of nonprint media, this collection of papers covers both the general field and specific types of media. A comprehensive view of media cataloging and classification is given in chapter one. A chronological treatment is used to emphasize the historical development of standards and cataloging techniques. The second chapter, on the selection and acquisition of nonprint media, examines the reference works currently available as aids in collection development. Another chapter discusses both national and international agencies concerned with the formulation of standards for nonprint media, its equipment and service. Separate chapters by media specialists are devoted to specific formats: sound recordings; slides; film; filmstrips; maps and map collections; and pictures, photographs, and prints. The chapter authors present the results of literature searches, summaries of research in progress, procedures of existing programs, and their recommendations for collection development and utilization. A bibliography of selected references is appended. (Author/SL)
