Archives Audiovisual Aids Curriculum Development Field Experience Programs Information Scientists Librarians Library Education Library Schools Library Technicians Professional Training Regional Planning Teachers Teaching Methods Universities Based on a survey, the major characteristics of Sub-Saharan African library schools are summarized. An analysis of the current situation and suggestions for development are given in the areas of objectives, research and publication efforts, financial support, and physical facilities. Also considered are the staff, students, and programs of the schools. Among the suggested improvements in teaching methods are a program for library work experience and the use of audiovisual aids. The need for curricula relevant to the special needs of Africa is stressed. New library schools are planned to further the equalization of development of professional education for the library, archive, and information science professions.
