Individuals, organizations, and tribes are recognizing that libraries and the information services they offer are necessary to meet Indian goals. Although these goals vary widely from improved access to education, cultural information, information on available social services to leisure reading, they are all based in a component or institution designed to process information. Sixth in a series of 11 brief, practical guides developed to provide initial direction and alternatives to those planning or engaged in developing Indian library and information systems, this guide explains the integral role of libraries in the adult education process. The guide discusses the library as a provider of adult education and describes some model programs which have been successful. Funding and problems encountered in adult education programs are also discussed. Some reading suggestions and other resources are also listed. (NQ) |
