Communications Information Dissemination Information Needs Information Networks Library Networks Library Surveys Newspapers Public Libraries Publicize Radio State Libraries Television Commercials Workshops Owen G. Leach & Associates, under professional contract to the New Mexico State Library, conducted an opinion research study of New Mexico citizens. This study determined that 52.5 percent of adults needed and wanted information available from library networks, but did not realize that this information could be obtained through libraries. A statewide public service media campaign was developed to demonstrate the library's ability to provide relevant information and to show the capacity of libraries for sharing resources as a way of broadening the capacity to deliver information. A communications strategy was presented to librarians in six workshops. Booklets and poster ideas were distributed to support local tie-in campaigns. TV and radio stations broadcast $15,889 in public service announcements. The campaign was suspended after a free Inflation-Fighter Booklist campaign faltered due to less-than-expected local library participation. (Author/LS)
