Career Choice Career Education Employment Opportunities Occupational Clusters Occupational Information For career education instructors to help in the career choices of their students, it is necessary that a knowledge of occupational information related to different subject areas be acquired. By introducing occupational possibilities into the career education curriculum students can explore these possibilities and make worthwhile decisions. The document presents detailed occupational information for teachers, students, and guidance counselors. It is comprised of a list of occupations (based on the Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT), 1965 edition), in some cases with an outline of their activities and suggestions for appropriate teaching, related to the following areas of study: art; business and office education; distributive education; English language arts; foreign languages; health; home economics and potential related areas; industrial arts; math; music; physical education, recreation, and outdoor education; science; and social studies. Occupational information is described and arranged according to the DOT code, worker trait group, occupational title, and related industry. Instructions on how to use the DOT, and the DOT code number and its corresponding Dewey library code are appended. (EC) |
