The papers reflect the need to address and define issues in national information policy, and they examine the current state of federal-level planning and funding of information systems. Contributed papers are categorized in the following manner: (1) information transfer mechanisms and phenomena; 2) library networks; 3) communication and classification theory; 4) user psychology; 5) library management; 6) education and careers in information science; 7) retrieval vocabularies: indexing, switching mechanisms, and text manipulation; 8) planning national and international systems, extending the application of technology, and using micromedia; 9) the future of information services and systems; 10) clustering and discrimination techniques and secondary sources; 11) using on-line retrieval services; and 12) applications in biology and chemistry. In all, 80 papers are included. (CH) |
