contents A Survey of Student Reactions to Waubonsee Community College. Vojtisek, James R. College Faculty College Instruction Community Colleges Educational Assessment Institutional Research Participant Satisfaction Student Attitudes Student College Relationship Student Reaction Two Year Colleges In order to gain an overall view of student attitudes toward Waubonsee Community College (WCC), determine the strong and weak aspects of WCC, and provide a data base for later comparisons, a standard Educational Testing Service survey instrument was administered to a random sample of about 650 WCC students. The survey instrument used was Student Reaction to College which consists of 150 items which students rank on a three, four, or five point scale. WCC added an additional 14 locally generated items, and eight items designed to elicit descriptive characteristics of the sample (age, race, number of credits, etc.). The item generally fell into 10 categories: instruction and classroom experience, studying, student goals and planning, counseling and advising, administration regulations, class scheduling and registration, student activities, living, faculty contact, and library and bookstore. The instruction and classroom experience category contained the greatest number of items (47). Although students were generally pleased with the presentation of class material, some said that teachers do not gear their instruction to student interests and abilities. Overall the college received a favorable rating. Tabulated data are appended. (NHM)
