Cataloging College Libraries Computer Oriented Programs Computer Programs Data Processing Information Processing Information Systems Library Acquisition Library Automation Library Networks Library Services Library Technical Processes Online Systems Program Descriptions BALLOTS is a computerized system to support acquisitions and cataloging in the Stanford University Libraries. The system is divided into ten computerized functions, each supporting a specific type of library processing. The library staff communicates on-line with the system using four on-line files for searching: the MARC file, the In Process File, the Catalog Data File, and the Reference File. The files are identified and restricted by library; this allows multi-library access to BALLOTS files but only the library owning the file can update its records. The system has been in operation since November, 1972, and 90% of the technical processing is now automated. (CH) |
