contents Surveying the Information Needs of a Specific Business/Economic Community. Meyer, Robert S. Business Information Needs Library Services Library Surveys Public Libraries Public Relations Questioning Techniques Speeches Special circumstances surround the surveying of businessmen's information needs. The businessman's characteristics must be considered; he is pragmatic and practical is time-oriented, has simple and basic information needs, is probably unaware that the public library can help him, has limited and specialized information resources, and uses a variety of external information sources. The most appropriate techniques must be used for making preliminary contacts, selecting questions to ask, choosing interview personnel, selecting interviewees, convincing the businessman that he should be interviewed, conducting the interview, and concluding the interview. Surveys should be ongoing and continuous if user-oriented library service is to be maintained. (LS)
