Reed, Mary Jane Pobst Cataloging Computer Oriented Programs Library Acquisition Library Automation Library Networks Library Technical Processes Online Systems Public Libraries Regional Libraries State Libraries Statewide Planning Union Catalogs The Washington Library Network is developing a computer assisted bibliographic system to speed and expand library operations throughout the state. Features include Machine Readable Cataloging (MARC) format with all content designators, subject and name authority files, sorting by Library of Congress rules, and stringent quality control. Future modules will add acquisition/accounting and circulation support. On-line capabilities are presently under development. This paper describes the present batch-mode cataloging subsystem and the developmental efforts toward on-line, integrated acquisitions and cataloging support. (Author/EMH)
