- Microfilm: The Librarians' View, 1976-77. Dranov, Paula Equipment Evaluation Libraries Library Acquisition Library Circulation Library Collections Microfiche Microfilm Microform Readers Microforms Periodicals Problems Quality Control State of the Art Reviews Use Studies A literature review and mail and telephone surveys of librarians led to the following conclusions: 1) despite the increased availability of materials on microfilm, there is no shift to acquire original publications on microform; 2) microfiche has emerged to challenge 35mm rollfilm as a significant format; 3) microform reading equipment is an obstacle to widespread use; 4) uncertainty over non-silver films is hampering wider use of microforms by libraries; and 5) use of microform for administrative and recordkeeping functions promises to increase. This report provides an overview of microform use, and it describes the design, execution, and findings of the survey of librarians, with tabular summaries of results. (EMH)
