Bowron, Albert Cooperative Programs Coordination Financial Support Governing Boards Library Administration Library Cooperation Library Networks Library Planning Library Role Library Standards Library Technical Processes Public Libraries Regional Libraries State Libraries Statewide Planning Tables (Data) In 1975 a study of the Ontario (Canada) public library system was undertaken in order to develop plans for organizing, financing, and coordinating public libraries in the next ten years. From published reports, interviews, letters, and examination of facilities and available data, information was collected on provincial and county library development; the roles and activities of the provincial ministry, library, and library council; local public library boards; regional library systems; cooperative materials processing; the relevance of collections in English; and service to the French-speaking population. From this material, presented here in both narrative and tabular form, a proposal for the reorganization of public libraries in Ontario was developed. This involved a federated library system with seven planning regions and a resource library for each region. Areas of responsibility were outlined for the province, the regional resource libraries, and local libraries, with levels of service and collections based on international standards to be adopted by the Ontario Public Library Board.
