- Library Use and Reference Service: A Regression Analysis. Regazzi, John J. Hersberger, Rodney M. College Libraries Library Services Personnel Needs Reference Services Statistical Analysis Use Studies The hypothesis that there exists a strong linear relation between reference service and library use was strongly supported by data from Northern Illinois University Library. Hourly counts of people using the reference room, total number of direction and location questions asked, and total number of reference questions asked were randomly sampled. Regression analysis tests of the relationships between the total number of questions asked and room use, reference questions and room use, and direction questions and room use all showed significant linear relationships. Library use patterns might, therefore, be useful in planning reference service staffing. (KB)
