College Libraries Conference Reports Databases Library Administration Library Associations Library Automation Online Systems Research Libraries Serials Technology The January, 1974, meeting of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) focused on "Changing Objectives in Research Libraries." Two speakers--Hugh Atkinson, Director of Libraries at the Ohio State University, and Richard Boxx, Director of Libraries at the University of Tennessee--discussed client definitions of library objectives, changes in management styles, structuring for choice, planning techniques, shifting resources, and non-print media. Herman Fussler of the University of Chicago then reported on his project with the Alfred Sloan Foundation to investigate the current status and potentials of technology in libraries. Lawrence Livingston reported on an interlibrary effort to build an on-line national serials data base. Duscussion and reports from ARL commissions and executives followed. (KB)
