After a general reading list, the bibliographies are divided according to the language they deal with: (1) French, by Andre Martinet and Stanley Lampach; (2) German, by Herbert L. Kufner and William G. Moulton; (3) Italian, by Frederick B. Agard and Robert J. Di Pietro; (4) Russian: Edward Stankiewicz and Dean S. Worth; and (5) Spanish, by William A. Stewart. Virtually all of the entries are annotated. A wide variety of topics are dealt with, including bibliographies, contrastive studies, dialectology, grammatical studies, historical treatments, lexical studies, orthography, pedagogical materials, phonetics, phonology, semantics, statistical works, stylistics and syntax.
