contents Standards for Community College Library Facilities. College Libraries Community Colleges Facility Guidelines Library Facilities Library Planning Library Standards State Standards Two Year Colleges This report contains proposed standards for community college library facilities developed by the California Postsecondary Education Commission. Formulae for calculating stack space, staff space, reader station space, and total space are included in the report. Three alternative models for revising the present library standards were considered: standards based on "average" practice, derived through the use of regression analysis; theoretical standards developed by the Standards Committee of the California Learning Resources Association; and the adjusted standards recommended in the report, which are designed to reflect certain economies of scale inherent in the operation of the larger institutions. The standards recommended by the Commission were chosen because they do not contain the deficiencies associated with the alternative sets of standards. It is noted in the report that the proposed standards are intended to serve as guidelines for state support of capital outlay projects since modification may be necessary under certain unique circumstances.
