Librarians Library Instruction Library Material Selection Library Planning Library Policy Library Services Library Standards Public Libraries This collection provides summaries of documents on which the policies of the Oklahoma County Libraries System are based, the "Statement of Purpose and Goals," and "Policy for Selection of Materials," as well as brief descriptions of procedures for materials selection and handling complaints or suggestions from patrons. Documents include: (1) the Metropolitan Library Act of 1965, which establishes the legal basis for the systems; (2) library funding under a special tax levy provided for by a 1960 constitutional amendment; (3) the Freedom to Read Statement of the American Library Association and Association of American Publishers, which was adopted by the Metropolitan Library Commission in 1973; and (4) the Library Bill of Rights, which was adopted by the American Library Association in 1948 and in 1969 by the Metropolitan Library Commission.
