  • Work-Study and the Graduate School of Library Science. Reinwand, Louis Graduate Study Library Education Library Schools Library Science Work Study Programs Historically American librarians were trained by practical methods. As the twentieth century progressed, academic training became the primary method of educating librarians. In the late 1960's the need for balance between theory and practice in library education started a movement toward the renewal of technical education to supplement the existing scholarly approach. Practical work experience, as yet, has not been incorporated widely into formalized cooperative programs for library science, but it is hoped that continued agitation and proposed work-study programs will return balance to the education of librarians.
