As a result, small schools were unable to provide the same special services as larger schools, since they could not afford special teachers for physical education, music, library, and guidance. In this practicum, the author developed and implemented a funding scale for the school system that gave small schools more dollars per student than larger schools received. The funding scale ranged from schools with enrollments of less than 225 students to more than 813 students and provided payments of from $900 to $690 per student. This funding scale enabled smaller elementary schools to provide special services equal to larger schools, while maintaining pupil/teacher and pupil/professional staff ratios commensurate with school board policy and the accreditation standards of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
