Parr, Edward Community Information Services Community Organizations Data Collection Library Services Library Surveys Public Agencies Public Libraries Questionnaires Use Studies User Satisfaction (Information) A total of 830 patrons of the adult section in Waverly Municipal Library in Sydney, Australia responded to a questionnaire to determine sociological characteristics and user behavior. The study revealed that: (1) nearly two thirds of all users are under 35 years of age; (2) level of education and involvement in formal education are underlying determinants of use; (3) there is a high level of satisfaction with library service; and (4) few people perceive the public library as part of a community information network and the library itself does not appear to act in this capacity. Further questioning of non-library users was recommended for more complete information to be used in library planning. This step-by-step report describes the methodology used to determine library user characteristics, and includes tables, diagrams, maps, plates and the questionnaire. (Author/KP)
