Chapters and their subsections are: (1) Purpose of Toy Lending Libraries; (2) Types of Toy Libraries (independent libraries, libraries as part of other community services, and libraries mostly for parents); (3) Selecting Appropriate Toys and Equipment (general tips for buying and specific recommendations of toys found effective with infants, toddlers and older preschoolers); (4) Operating Procedures (physical layout, display and play area, storage area, maintenance areas, special activity areas, coding toys, registering members, check out procedures, daily housekeeping duties, and toy library forms); (5) Staffing; and (6) Recruiting Members. Also included are lists of two types of references: Nontechnical publications on playing with children and publications on research in early childhood stimulation. (SB)
