  • Native American Career Education Unit. The Career Fair. American Indians Art Activities Career Education Cultural Education Curriculum Guides Decision Making Skills Educational Objectives Ethnic Groups Exhibits Fused Curriculum Group Activities Instructional Materials Junior High Schools Learning Activities Occupational Information Program Development Resource Materials Secondary Education Skill Development Student Evaluation One of the twelve instructional units in the Native American Career Education (NACE) program, this unit is intended to help Indian junior high school students review and apply the knowledge which they have gained in the preceding eleven units. In three activities students consider and discuss general concepts dealt with in previous units, do research on careers that interest them, and prepare and give a career fair. Components involved in planning, preparing, conducting, and evaluating a career fair include individual and group research, group planning, decision making, and cooperation, use of individual artistic, literary, and other skills in creating exhibits on particular jobs, and student evaluation of their work through observations and a questionnaire completed by visitors. Related subject areas are English/language arts, arts and crafts, and library skills. Each activity includes objectives, student materials, and suggestions to the teacher on how to use them. Student exercises consist of readings, questions to answer, games, simulations, project instructions, and other learning activities. Each activity is followed by suggestions for ways of extending learning and, where appropriate, additional resources are described. Student materials may be used as master copies for reproduction or as models for material development. A test designed to measure student mastery of the main objectives is included with each unit, along with an answer key. (A guide to the whole twelve-unit program is also available.) (TA)
