contents Demonstration and Evaluation of the Effects of Incentives on Resource Sharing Using a Computerized Interlibrary Communications System. College Libraries Interlibrary Loans Library Automation Library Cooperation Library Networks Library Research Models Online Systems Public Libraries Regional Cooperation Special Libraries Tables (Data) The potential for using a computerized communication system to facilitate resource sharing in New England has been investigated by the staff of the New England Information Network (NELINET). The central purpose of their research was to determine whether a strategy for load leveling of interlibrary loan (ILL) requests could be implemented online as part of the regional ILL system. The first year's project report includes: (1) results and analysis of a Base Line Statistical Survey used to collect data about ILL traffic; (2) discussion of the mathematical model used to test market value strategies and analysis of their effectiveness for load leveling; (3) description of the services and information to be provided by the system in an on-line mode; (4) evaluation of how effectively the market value strategy could bring about load leveling in a regional ILL system; (5) summary of project tasks; (6) information dissemination activities of the project; and (7) a review of significant evaluations made during the project. A series of screen displays developed to demonstrate ways in which a market value strategy might be presented to users, data requirements of the proposed system, and ILL goals and objectives are included in the appendices.
