- A Feasibility Study for Consolidating and/or Coordinating Technical Procedures in Beaver County Pennsylvania Libraries. Fry, James W. Cataloging Centralization Cost Effectiveness County Libraries Library Automation Library Materials Library Networks Library Technical Processes Tables (Data) In 1977 the Public Library Commission, in conjunction with the State Library of Pennsylvania, received a Library Services and Construction Act, Title III Grant to conduct a feasibility study of technical service operations in various types of libraries within Beaver County. Its objectives were to: (1) analyze existing library materials purchasing procedures of college, public, and special libraries; (2) analyze the cataloging practices of those libraries; (3) analyze the existing processing methods; and (4) make recommendations as to the feasibility of consolidating or coordinating activities which include OCLC bibliographic network capabilities. Questionnaires were sent to each of the various types of libraries. Literature searches were done, as well as a complete review and cost analysis of the library materials purchasing practices. Recommendations include: (1) the establishment of a centralized processing center for the libraries of Beaver County; (2) the appointment of a technical services advisory council to consist of members of participating libraries and a member of the Public Library Commission. Letters and questionnaires used to gather data are appended. (Author/AWP)
