  • A Comprehensive Program of User Education for the General Libraries, The University of Texas at Austin. College Libraries Library Instruction Library Services Library Skills Library Surveys Needs Assessment Student Attitudes Use Studies The 1975 User Education Committee was charged with formulating a comprehensive user education program for the General Libraries. Work begun by this committee and completed by the 1976 committee is summarized in this document. The committee defined categories of users and, in cooperation with the university's Measurement and Evaluation Center, designed and implemented two questionnaires (included in appendices) to learn more about student library instruction needs and student and faculty opinions. The committee also designed report forms to collect information about present user activities. The information gathered from the questionnaires and the report forms is summarized. User education goals and specific objectives for each category of user and the proposed programs are also detailed. The User Education Program is not intended to be a rigid or restricting program, but rather was developed as a guide to meet the need for a coordinated and comprehensive user education program. Three stages of proposed implementation are outlined. (Author/JAB)
