contents Leisure Reading for Adults. Jacques, Joseph W., Comp Schwartz, Beverly, Comp. Adult Basic Education Adults Annotated Bibliographies Biographies Books Educational Resources Ethnic Groups Fiction Instructional Materials Literacy Education Minority Groups Nonfiction Secondary Education Supplementary Reading Materials Textbooks Young Adults This bibliography was developed for use by librarians, curriculum specialists, learning center directors, and teachers to help them find interesting non-instructional materials for adults with limited reading ability (including young adults). Following a brief introductory discussion on simplified literature, the nearly 450 abstracts of fiction and nonfiction materials are grouped according to seven library categories and within each category the abstracts are arranged in ascending order of reading difficulty. These categories are (1) classics and best sellers: abridged and adapted, (2) easy fiction, (3) Spanish classics in translation, (4) anthologies and short story collections, (5) general nonfiction: history and biography (multiethnic and especially about blacks, hispanics, and American Indians), (6) special interest nonfiction and scriptographic learning resources, and (7) for the librarian. The first and fifth of the above groupings each comprise one-third of the bibliography. Each of the citations within this bibliography includes publication title, series title (if applicable), author, source, publication date, number of pages, price, curricular information (intended use and grade level), reading level, format, and a brief abstract.
