Census Figures Community Characteristics Community Study Demography Library Collections Library Planning Library Services Public Libraries Tables (Data) Use Studies This three part study is an evaluation and planning tool based on information and techniques presented in a seminar conducted in 1975-76 called "Institute on Developing Dynamic Public Library Services Responsive to Community Needs." It is a synthesis and analysis of information available about the Old Bridge Township community and library services in order to create a picture of the existing relationship of the community to the library. Part I gives a "portrait" of the community based upon observations, interviews with local organization and municipal leaders, and previously published reports, histories, plans, and other material. Part II analyzes characteristics of the township utilizing census tract data to provide profiles on population distribution, age, family structure, education, public school enrollment, employment and occupational status, family income, and housing. The Old Bridge Public Library's history; programs; staff and organization; finance; relations with other libraries; previous library studies; services; collection statistics; circulation statistics by census tract, age/sex of borrowers, student/occupational status; and an analysis of library registration by age/sex and student occupational groups are presented in Part III. Recommendations and conclusions for improved services, growth, and expansion to make the library more responsive to the expressed and implied needs of the community are included. (JPF)
