McCoy (Assistant University Librarian for Personnel, University of California, Davis), "Career expectations for librarians in the University of California"; Page Ackerman (then University Librarian, U.C.L.A.), "The responsibility of the individual and the obligation of the institution in developing a professional library career"; and Gail Ann Schlachter (Assistant University Librarian for Public Services, University of California, Davis), "Research and the inquiring librarian." The remarks of the four speakers, along with questions and answers which followed their presentations, have been brought together and edited with an introduction by Richard S.
