contents A Study of Interlibrary Loan Transactions in the Texas Information Exchange. Academic Libraries College Libraries Interlibrary Loans Library Networks Library Surveys Public Libraries Statistical Data Tables (Data) Unit Costs A questionnaire was designed and circulated to all member libraries of the Texas Information Exchange to gather data associated with the costs and volume of interlibrary loan activity from September 1, 1975 to February 28, 1976. Forty of the forty-five members of the Exchange participated in the study. In the area of costs, information was collected for the costs of supplies, transmitting requests, postage, courier service, salaries, and cost per transaction. For volume, an attempt was made to measure the total activity: transactions within the network versus transactions outside the network; filled versus unfilled transactions; loan requests versus photocopy requests; and borrowing versus lending transactions. Data obtained from the study is presented in tabular form arranged alphabetically by library. A comparison of public and academic libraries for costs and volume follows, with a summary of findings and suggestions for further study concluding the report. (JPF)
