Copyrights Guidelines Laws Libraries Publishing Industry Reprography This pamphlet was prepared by the Association of American Publishers (AAP) and the Authors League to: (1) state their understanding of fair use and library photocopying under Section 107; (2) state their understanding of the library copying privileges granted by Section 108, and the limits it imposes on photocopying by nonprofit libraries; (3) present interim guidelines to assist library personnel in determining when a library's production or distribution of photocopies for its own patrons does or does not require copyright permission; and (4) answer questions on library photocopying frequently asked by librarians, educators, and others. The appendices include guidelines for classroom copying in not-for-profit educational institutions with respect to books and periodicals; an excerpt from the Senate Committee's report on systematic copying; a reprint of sections 107 and 108 of the new copyright law; means available to obtain photocopying licenses or authorized copies of copyrighted materials; and discussion of how to obtain permissions.
