Average faculty load within the LACCD in fall 1977 was 445, a 2.6% decline from the fall 1976 figure of 457. Statewide faculty load experienced a similar (2.0%) drop in load last fall to 484. Large community college loads declined 2.0% to 495, while small community colleges fell 3.1% to 442. For the third consecutive year the number of subject areas with decreasing loads (16) surpassed the number with increasing loads (7); major increases were evident in Interdisciplinary Studies (14.1%) and Architecture and Environmental Design (13.2%); the greatest declines occurred in Library Science (52%), Public Affairs and Services (21.5%), and Commerce (15.8%). District load continued to be below the state average as it has been for four of the past five years, although it was greater in Agriculture and Natural Resources, Communications, Engineering and Apprenticeship; noticeable lower District loads were observed in Commerce and Library Science.
