contents Analysis of Service and Development of Performance Measurements for State of Hawaii Libraries. Volume III: Results of the Library Staff and Government Agency Surveys. Attitudes College Libraries Government Libraries Library Networks Library Research Library Surveys Personnel Public Libraries Questionnaires State Agencies State Libraries Methodologies and findings are reported for a two phase study focusing on the role of the state library system in relation to institutional needs. The first phase consisted of in-depth, semi-structured interviews with the management of each of six government agencies and institutions with actual and potential needs for library system services; the second employed a survey questionnaire which was distributed to all library personnel except janitorial or maintenance workers. Findings based on 297 completed interviews and 291 questionnaires are concerned with the role of the state library system in relation to linkage organizations, personnel-staff informational needs, books and materials needed, necessary improvements in library services, the book charge system, hours of operation, morale, and demographic characteristics of survey respondents. Appendices include tabulated results and survey instruments. (CMV)
