Cassidy, Lelia Belle Archaeology Bibliographies Library Collections Library Material Selection Postsecondary Education Small Colleges This bibliography, compiled by a college librarian with the assistance of 11 college instructors, contains the core of current English-language publications in archaeology, suitable for a small college that may not train professional archaeologists but that supports coursework and supplies general interest reading material on the topic in its library. The 83 books on the list were selected using criteria of integrity, currency, readability, attractiveness, and price, and cost approximately $800. The titles are arranged alphabetically by author in the following subject areas: general works; philosophy and religion; civilization and archaeology; history; the Americas; North America; geography and anthropology; art; language arts; science; and technology. Each entry includes 1978 price, Library of Congress card order number, and when available, International Standard Book Number; all titles were in print as of July 1978. Appendices list 29 out of print books of value to archaeology and 39 other books considered semi-finalists in the main selection. (MB)
