American Indian Reservations American Indians Community Health Services Cultural Background Family Health Family Planning Health Health Education Health Needs Health Occupations Information Centers Labor Needs Medical Research Medical Services Nurses Preventive Medicine Professional Continuing Education Rural Areas Scholarships Accomplishments of the Navajo Health Authority (NHA) since it began in 1972 are presented in synopsis form in a report of programs underway at Window Rock and Shiprock, along with NHA goals: to promote development of Navajo Health manpower, preventive medicine, health education, and native healing sciences. After a brief review of executive and administration and support services accomplishments, the report focuses on Window Rock programs: Allied Health, Office of Student Affairs (scholarships, health careers recruiting, Summer Work Experience Program for high school and college students in health-career settings), Health Education, Nursing Education (including rural critical care training), Emergency Medical Services (development of a comprehensive system), Health Statistics and Research (only tribal office of health statistics in the U.S.), Native Healing Sciences, and Navajo Comprehensive Health Planning Agency. Programs at Shiprock include a Family Planning Program, Family Health Center, Media Center (medical library, information dissemination), and Preventive Medicine. There are tables on these topics: number and type of students supported by year and funding source; number of students in various programs administered by Office of Student Affairs; data on veterinary aid workshop graduates and emergency medical technician training courses; number, type, and ethnic background of reservation nurses and physicians.
