Community Role Computer Science Conference Reports Consumer Economics Consumer Education Curriculum Development Educational Improvement Government Role Higher Education Inservice Education Institutional Cooperation Money Management Program Development Resource Centers Secondary Education Teacher Education Teaching Methods The booklet contains transcripts of ten presentations given at a workshop on consumer economics in Michigan. The main objective of the workshop was to explore ways of improving the training of undergraduate and graduate education majors and the inservice training of secondary and middle school teachers in the areas of personal and family finance. Among the speakers were representatives of the Michigan State Board of Education, Michigan State University, the Michigan Consumer Education Center, the American Council of Life Insurance, and a state senator. Topics included the following: factors influencing family financial planning education, use of role play and games in teaching consumer economics, development of a resource library in consumer economics, and use of the computer in money management education. A summary of group discussion following the workshop emphasized (1) linkages between the state, communities, and universities in developing consumer education programs, and (2) development of a plan for inter-university cooperation.
