The paper indicates the importance of the library in reading development and notes that children use the library more extensively today than they did earlier. Changes in society and their effects on the educational system and on reading instruction are mentioned. The paper concludes by suggesting that study and research on reading in Denmark can be illuminated by further historical research and by consideration of the experience of other countries. (TJ)
