Annotated Bibliographies Audiovisual Aids Book Reviews Discographies Educational Needs Equipment Standards Filmographies Indexes Literature Reviews Media Selection Resource Materials Special Education Student Needs The process is discussed and helpful publications are reviewed for the selection of materials in three areas--learning resource materials for library media programs, materials for special education, and equipment. In the first section, such factors as the need for suitable materials, the abundance of materials available, and financial limitations are considered, and 54 selection tools are described. Listed in three categories by the type of information they provide, these secondary sources include locator tools (indexes, catalogs, directories), recommended lists of materials (which provide some evaluative information in many instances), and review sources (bibliographies, mediagraphies, audiographies, discographies, and videographies). Sources for the location and evaluation of materials for special education, including individualized instruction in the implementation of Public Law 94-142, are discussed and several selection tools are reviewed. The last section includes a brief discussion of criteria for equipment selection and reviews of some publications which provide descriptive and/or evaluative information on hardware. (CWM)
