contents The Use of Nonprint Media in the Public Schools of Maryland: An Exploratory Study. Final Report. Liesener, James W. Audiovisual Aids Information Utilization Learning Resources Centers Library Research Library Services Public Schools School Libraries Statewide Planning Tables (Data) Use Studies User Satisfaction (Information) The primary objective of this project was the study of the utilization of nonprint media in the public schools of the State of Maryland in order to determine current patterns and identify developing trends in the use of media materials and equipment. Secondary objectives were to determine variations in patterns of use of media materials and equipment by grade level and by curriculum subject area, and to explore the more subjective area of the relative importance that teachers and library media specialists give to the use of various media and their changing attitudes regarding this use. A library media specialist and selected teachers in ten schools in each of three public school systems were interviewed in order to collect data on the development of collections of media materials and equipment, their use in library media centers and classrooms, and the production of media materials. Sources of information included records in district and local library media centers, inventories, expenditure records, circulation records, new materials lists, and the perceptions of media use of library media personnel and teachers which were elicited through questionnaires and interviews. Summaries and recommendations are included. (Author/JEG)
