  • A Study of the Continuing Education Interests of Illinois Community College Library and Learning Resource Center Personnel. Summary Report. Means, Robert P. College Libraries Literature Reviews Methods Needs Assessment Professional Continuing Education Professional Personnel Program Development Questionnaires Surveys Tables (Data) Two Year Colleges The survey of the professional continuing education needs and interests of Illinois public and private community college library/learning resource center personnel which is summarized was conducted by the Illinois Library Association in conjunction with the development of better continuing education programs for its membership. Major findings indicate interest in continuing education is fostered by operational changes in libraries, a need for improved communication for input on library planning, development of activities for adult learners, and development of technical skills relating to use of new equipment and techniques. Data collected, which should assist in program development of continuing education activities, include extent of previous continuing education involvement, educational formats most effective for professional development, types of programs preferred, incentives for participation, and obstacles to participation. This summary report also includes a review of the literature on continuing professional education, study methodology and a sample questionnaire, data analysis procedures, a presentation of specific findings, and analyses of responses by personnel type and age group. Appendices include lists of participating community colleges and administrative and technical tasks of personnel. A bibliography is included. (Author/MBR)
