And Others Educational Needs Educational Policy Librarians Library Associations Professional Continuing Education Student Educational Objectives Surveys Tables (Data) In an effort to determine the continuing education (CE) needs and interests of its members, as a first step in the development of a statewide program, the New York Library Association surveyed its entire membership during the winter of 1978. Of more than 3000 questionnaires sent out, 307 (or ten percent) were returned. This report presents the findings of the survey in a broad range of areas. Specifically, data tables show statistics for the type of library in which respondents work; their positions; the number of years since they graduated from library school; their CE experiences; their NYLA affiliations; their CE priorities; their choice of forces acting against CE programs; their personal commitment in support of CE programs; the type of CE assistance needed by their organizations; their CE opportunities and priorities for the next three to five years; their subject content priorities for CE over the next three to five years; CE policies they feel libraries should provide employees; the rewards, recognitions, and incentives desired; and the desired location for regional conferences. Conclusions and recommendations are also included. (JD)
