Audiovisual Instruction College Faculty Computers Curriculum Development Educational Strategies Educational Technology Faculty Development Financial Support Grants Higher Education Institutional Research Instructional Improvement Instructional Innovation Program Descriptions Projects Video Equipment Instructional improvement projects are described that were conducted during 1978 as part of a program at Memphis State University that gives small grants to faculty members. Full-time faculty members were invited to submit proposals they believed would lead to improvement of learning in their courses and might offer broad instructional implications. Seven criteria for selection of proposals for funding are explained. The budgets for the proposals funded ranged from $300 to $1600, with a mean of $861. The projects, divided into the following five categories, are described in detail: instructional planning and development, video technology in instruction, computer technology in instruction, audio-visual support of instruction, and faculty seminar in instructional improvement. In addition to providing money, the Center for Instructional Service and Research at Memphis State also helps faculty members conduct each project through systematic course development, development of instructional aids, application of educational technology, and design of evaluation plans.
