  • School Media Programs and Networking: A Position Paper. Johnson, Mary Frances K. Hines, Theodore C. Consortia Cooperative Programs Directories Library Cooperation Library Networks Opinions School Libraries Shared Services Statewide Planning This paper prepared for the Task Force on the Role of School Library Media Programs in Networking reviews the role of networking in such programs, lists the objectives of networking for library consortia, and discusses such topics as the benefits and disadvantages of participation in these organizations, prerequisites and criteria for networking, and barriers to cooperation. An analysis of clienteles to be served is also provided, as well as lists of networking relationships and types of networking activities, and a model of the parameters of library consortia. School library participation in networking activities is described for the states of California, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Utah, Washington, and Wisconsin, and the Calgary (Alberta) Public Library. Recommendations directed to the task force and a 34-item bibliography conclude the report. (RAO)
