- A Community Analysis in Respect to Library Services, Washington County, Virginia. Carter, Martha A. Community Characteristics Community Organizations Community Study Demography Financial Support Library Collections Library Planning Library Services Needs Assessment Public Libraries Statistical Data This analysis of the community was designed to identify the needs of its citizens so that the Washington County Public Library could plan more responsive library services. Sections described the physical and historical aspects of the community; demographic characteristics of its population, including age, sex, education, employment status and occupations, and income; clubs and organizations; and the library, its development, facilities, staff, financial resources, materials collection, users, and services. Conclusions and recommendations are presented, based on the factual material described and the minimum standards for public libraries adopted by the Virginia State Library Board in January 1978. Nineteen data tables present the statistics used in the analysis; appendices list the organizations and agencies of the county (with the name, address, and telephone number of each president), and show statistics for the materials collection (as of July 1, 1978) and for library circulation, by the main library and the mobile library, from 1974-78. A bibliography of the sources used is also included. (JD)
