contents A Pilot Library Workshop on Term Paper Writing: Proposal and Final Report. Ames, Gregory P. Academic Libraries College Students Guides Higher Education Interdisciplinary Approach Library Role Library Skills Needs Assessment Program Content Program Descriptions Program Evaluation Program Proposals Research Skills Student Needs Workshops Writing (Composition) Writing Skills The first part of this two-part paper contains the original proposal for a college-level, team-taught library workshop designed for maximum interpersonal guidance on the mechanics of term paper preparation. It includes a survey of on-campus opportunities for students to receive help in developing their personal term paper skills, an assessment of the need for a workshop program as seen in students' apparently declining abilities, a justification of library involvement in teaching term paper skills, and a general description of the objectives and approach of the workshop sessions. The second part of the paper offers an analysis of the completed program that details promotional efforts, discusses the relative merits of the workshop format, identifies students' problem areas and major questions, and suggests improvements in workshop design. Appendixes contain a poster announcing the workshop and various guides distributed to students who participated in the workshop. (Author/FL)
